Meet the family behind Highland Farm Cottages: the McKenzies
We’re Lesley and Kenneth McKenzie. Highland Farm Cottages is our family business, and we live here with our four children. Our dream was to create a beautiful, luxurious place for our guests to relax and enjoy, whilst experiencing the Highlands at first hand. We hope you will agree that it’s a dream come true, and a truly wonderful place for your holiday.
We’ve put our all into our cottages, restoring these heritage buildings during the past 8 years to make Highland Farm Cottages exactly the kind of place we would like to stay. Because of this, you’ll find top-quality mattresses on our beds, with top-quality linens and pillows. Your kitchen is fully equipped, including beautiful crockery from local business Tain Pottery. Your sitting room will have all the touches of home, with a flat-screen television, Blu-ray DVD and high-speed Wi-Fi. You’ll be able to relax in luxurious comfort on leather sofas, watching the sunset and enjoying a drink.
We can’t think of anywhere better to unwind than with us!
One of our biggest ambitions was to create a place that was kind to the earth. We’re delighted to say we have achieved that goal as well. Our entire operation is powered by 100% renewable energy. Our home and all the cottages are heated by our biomass boiler. Electricity generated by the sun and harnessed by our solar photovoltaic panels supplies all the cottages, and our home. You can be sure your cottage will be toasty warm, and your shower rooms will have plenty of hot water. And if you’d like to supplement it, many of our cottages also have a wood-burning stove.
Looking after the environment is crucial to us, and we are determined to do all we can to leave our children a planet that is sustainable. We’ve won awards not just for the quality of our accommodation, but for what we’ve achieved on the environmental front, and that makes us very happy indeed. You can read more about our cottages’ environmental credentials here.
When we’re not competing in triathlons or hill-walking, we enjoy taking our children swimming and kayaking.
We’ve also got a flock of sheep, a small herd of Highland cattle… who graze in the adjacent field from April through October. Known as “the Mountgerald Highlanders”, these cattle roam freely . . . and are very fond of having their photographs taken! {They’ve even got their own Facebook page!}
